If You’re A Beginner Internet Marketer, Begin At The Beginning

196310475_4097c3bf9d_m.jpgI did a live coaching call early in the new year where beginning internet marketers could ask me questions about blogging, SEO, and internet marketing in general. It was cool and I got to know a lot of good people, questions and answers flew furiously, but I realized something very quickly: A lot of aspiring marketers are getting started in the wrong places.

Here’s an example… One very nice lady had indicated on the call that she didn’t have a site, a product, didn’t know what niche she should get started in, etc. which, in and of itself is fine. Everyone needs to get started somewhere. The problem was, she hadn’t even gotten started and she was asking super-advanced questions about things like “latent semantic indexing.”

She was a nice lady and asked a lot of questions so I didn’t want to make her feel bad, so I came up with an analogy that would make a point without sounding rude:

“Asking about latent semantic indexing, or “LSI” as she put it, is like knowing the crank shaft bearing tolerances of a 2002 Dodge Viper’s engine… without even having a drivers license.”

Start at the beginning. Build a site or blog around a subject you’re interested in first. Write some content, build a small reader base by getting some traffic.

Get a car and drivers license. Turn the ignition key before you pull out the engine diagnostic equipment.
